| A unique set of William Spratling pins with onyx. These large pieces were made as fur clips to be worn on fur stoles and coats so fashionable in the 1940s. Mink, chinchilla and fox furs were used as a social status indicator. Clips were used since regular pins were difficult to use on fur and could damage the precious garments. The pins are sold as a set as they are not identical but rather mirror images of each other, meant to be worn on the left and right side of the fur stole. The hallmarks are correct and date the pins circa 1944-1946 in the Spratling first design period. Each clip measures 6.5 (2 1/2") by 2 cm (3/4") and weighs 17 grams (0.6 oz). COLLECTOR QUALITY. | |||||||
