Wonderful LA VIOLETA cuff from the earlier part of the 20th C. La Violeta was a silver shop in downtown Mexico City at the turn of the 20th century. The cuff is made in the traditional repoussage technique of the Mexico City Plateros guild. As you can see in the pictures there is detailed and tooling and intense craftsmanship was required to make this wearable work of art. This is an extraordinary necklace with a HUGE amethyst pendant on the front. The design combines repousse and stone setting. We had never seen something like this before, a great piece. Marked only SILVER MEXICO it is likely an early piece from the 1930s to the 1940s is our guess. An amazing 21 inches in length the central pendant is 2-1/2" by 3-1/3". Very impressive piece. This unique and rare bracelet is possibly from early Taxco, pre eagle. It is signed Ana, and we have never before seen this signature. I suppose one could speculate that Ana Nunez may have signed her name before she began using her daughter's name as a trademark (Victoria). In any case this is a well made chunky piece that wears like a dream. Measures 6-3/4" wearable length and 1-3/4" wide! The figurals depicted are pre Columbian Aztec.
