This extraordinary necklace is very similar and have the quality of the best necklaces worn by Frida Kahlo! It was strung using Pre Columbia Pre Classic Guerrero Beads. These beads are probably from the late Mesoamerican Pre Classic period (2000 BCE–200 CE). The necklace is absolutely magical. This Ledesma bracelet is inlaid with obsidian from the region of Teotihuacan, judged by the golden brown color of the stone when illuminated by intense light. A beautiful heavy large bangle that would look great when layering with other bracelets or simply by itself. This piece is unmarked but fully tested for sterling. Several published photographs of Frida Kahlo show her wearing very similar amethyst bangles along with several other silver pieces on the same arm. Very Mexican, very Mid Century. Measures 8-1/2" in internal perimeter and 1/2" wide. The stones are all intact and the piece has no signs of damage or repairs.

The technique is quite evident on the surface where carving on the surface complements the back embossing (repousse).
