Amazing Matilde Poulat necklace with a gorgeous depiction of two quetzal birds flanking the central medallion. The necklace has early pre-eagle marks. The necklace has unique character with two oval medallions separating the two portions of the links made with different repousse designs. One of the most iconic pieces by Spratling, this necklace is a highly desirable piece. The necklace was made in the early to mid 1930s and bears some of the earliest marks used by Spratling. The necklace was made for a few years and this is the likely the earliest version. The name of the necklace derives from the decorative bird drawings that Spratling saw on a large clay pot he purchased for US Ambassador Dwight Morrow and his wife.
